"My other Half Monday" - :November 23, 2009:

"To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness or in health, to love and to cherish 'till death do us part. And hereto I pledge you my faithfulness."

This weekend my husband took time to shoot his bow and arrow. He had an amazing shot with one arrow actually piercing another arrow dead center. The chance of this happening is probably very slim, but the thought of arrows had me thinking about today's post.

4As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

5Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

Psalm 127: 4-5

"My other Half" has blessed me with many arrows. I can remember each time I learned of a pregnancy and his reaction. The first child was literally a shot for joy....similar to probably his excitement when this arrow hit a sharp shot directly inside the other arrow. He was proud and wanted to tell everyone and anyone that he came in contact with about the news of his upcoming little bundle of joy. Just as he grabbed the camera to capture this proud moment, he would pat my belly, talk to the baby, and take pictures of the growing bump each month.

Over the years, this excitement seemed to change. We had horrific trials during pregnancies....a hemorrhage threatened pregnancy leading to many weeks on bedrest, an early miscarriage, the horrific nausea from hyperemesis gravidarum that stole my ability to function coupled with a loss at nearly 5 months, a premature baby, another loss at nearly 5 months and new baby that is actually sleeping peaceful right now in daddy's arms. Quite honestly the announcement of the last pregnancy even had me taking the test several times quivering with the fear of the upcoming trial that we were fairly certain would accompany the blessing.

I've learned that the enemy likes to try and attack where we are most filled with joy. Just as the verse shares "Happy is the man", the enemy wants to steal this happiness and turn our rejoicing into misery and sorrow. Several times we felt the bitter pain of these attacks and quite honestly some battles were even a miserable loss on the human side of things, but the Lord was always the General of the battle and knew His plans. The plans so perfectly laid out and each move strategically played out for His glory and honor.

My husband loves his arrows dearly! We have been incredibly blessed together with beautiful arrows to fill his quiver. My prayer this week is for my husband to be filled with joy in his quiver and give gratitude for his large family. May he be just as proud today or moreso with all the arrows in his quiver, as he was day over 16 years ago that a nurse handed "My other Half" his precious first born.

FOR TODAY Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Outside My Window...
It's been overcast and foggy looking but I believe today will be filled with plenty of sunshine and warmth from the rays shining down.

I am thankful...
for a special weekend with gratitude. I was even blessed with a well-needed 2 hour daytime nap after church yesterday!

I am thinking...
about how far behind on sharing our homeschooling on this blog. I want to share so much, but just haven't found the extra time to sit down and share it all.

From the learning rooms...
We are taking our scheduled week off from the books to enjoy the season of gratitude with Thanksgiving. We do plan on rowing Cranberry Thanksgiving and making the recipe for our tea time.

From the kitchen...
Turkey leftovers! We enjoyed our home cooked Thanksgiving meal on Saturday and this week, I gather we will be enjoying the leftovers -- turkey tacos, turkey casserole, turkey sandwiches...
  • TEA TIME -- Grandmother's Famous Cranberry Bread from Cranberry Thanksgiving
I am wearing...
a knit skirt and coordinating shirt. My hair is pulled up.

I am remembering...
my life a year ago and so thankful that I can enjoy eating this year without all the nausea.

I am creating...
some gifts for the holidays.

I am going...
to hopefully be sharing more of my heart on this blog!

I am reading...
my Bible and MFW Kindergarten lesson plans & Winter Promise lesson plans.

I am hoping...
for the peace in our home to continue to grow and fill the season of Advent.

On my mind...
are plans for the next few weeks. Our calendar is getting very full.

I am hearing...
the fussing whine of the baby.

Noticing that...
getting ready for church is getting easier when I plan ahead.

Pondering these words...
"They that sow in tears shall reap in joy."
Psalm 126:5 (KJV)
I've sewn many tears over many years, and I do feel the joy starting to grow.

Around the house...
is cleanliness! We spent Friday cleaning for our Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday and enjoyed our day of rest on Sunday. I hope that this week will bring about the needed rest to start our season of Advent.

One of my favorite things...
is the praise and worship time during our Sunday service.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...
Thanksgiving Day we are being blessed with a family reunion. I need to finish up a quilt and get it shipped off and continue finishing up some Christmas projects. I hope to decorate for the season by pulling out our Advent Wreath and candles and end this year with a new beginning for next year.

Here is picture thought I am sharing...

on the refrigerator this week!

SS'nS {Our Thanksgiving}

>> Saturday, November 21, 2009

We celebrated our Thanksgiving yesterday! We have been blessed with an Elder and his wife, married for over 50 years, committing to mentoring my husband and I in our marriage. The transformation is amazing!

As a small token of our gratitude for the weeks and months and years to come under their mentoring, we invited them over to celebrate with our traditional Thanksgiving Feast.

We enjoyed the day, starting with "Daddy and Daughter" massaging our turkey with butter and dressing it out for the oven. Our feast was a roasted turkey, seasoned with rosemary, thyme, poultry seasoning, salt and pepper, mashed potatoes and gravy, homemade candied yams topped with crispy light browned marshmellows, green bean casserole, dinner rolls, and pumpkin and cherry pies. We also drank Grape and Apple Sparkling cider.

After our meal, we were blessed with special fellowship together with Marionberry playing the piano and Raspberry dancing a ballet. We shared our scrapbooks and discussed our treasured family times over the past years.

Just plain Borrrrring!

I know that my blog is so boring. I have so much to say but I admit that I find it so hard to share much anymore. My life over the years has had so many trials and my heart is just tender. I sometimes fear being attacked. I really yearn to share more and hope that in the near future that I can really feel some peace about writing more.

My home life is really anything but boring! We have been battling a flu/colds for several weeks now and it has made our homeschooling life very interesting. Reading aloud between a cough, a nose blowing, or a fever check for more Tylenol has made for days of adventure.

Honey Berry is still quite the miserable baby. I yearn for the key to give her some form of happiness besides being in my arms all day, but nothing seems to stop the high pitched screeching. She is army scooting on the floor, but her floor time is very minimal because within minutes its a stereo of her screams and tears. High maintenance is another nickname and sometimes the days and nights blend together and my mother's heart can only pray for her to find some inner comfort. I finally step into a shower for some alone time and sometimes tear up wondering why she is only happy in my arms, but then the guilt overwhelms me. I have my baby. She is here with me and healthy. She is absolutely beautiful and a precious creation. The Lord blessed me with another treasured gift and I am so grateful. I will continue to give up the numerous nights without sleep to cuddle and snuggle and I will will continue to juggle my household chores and use one hand to cook and clean and use the other hand to give her reassurance that mommy is next to her. I will continue to be eternally grateful for the Lord's gift.

Thankfully she was placed in a family with many older sisters whose hands are always willing to help with baby when she cooperates. The girls have been so helpful with trying to keep her happy and often times it results with, "Okay, I give up, its someone else's turn."

This is pretty much what has been going on! We are really loving our homeschooling time together. It's very full and fills much of our days. We are really enjoying the Colonial period with all the womanly crafts.

"My other Half Monday" - :November 16, 2009:

>> Monday, November 16, 2009

"To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness or in health, to love and to cherish 'till death do us part. And hereto I pledge you my faithfulness."

Several have asked to join in this meme. I have made the graphic coding available in the right-hand column of my blog, but at this time, I'm not sure that I am worthy of taking on the responsibility of hosting such a meme. Please just follow your heart in your posting. May the Lord use your posts to touch your life and any who read, to grow stronger in our marriages with Christ's foundation as the center and grounding for growth towards Him.

Praying for "My other Half" has been on my heart this week. There are so many things that we need to work together on in a marriage but the beauty of prayer is that I, as a wife, can take on a duty of praying for my husband, regardless of any situation.

We do pray together as a family at every meal, but prayer time between my husband and I alone is not really something that is happening regularly. I do yearn for this occurrence, but in the meantime, I PRAY for this occurrence.

I have many things I pray for in our marriage life. The Lord has been answering my prayers and I know that the prayers of others have been honored, as well. Praise His name for hearing my prayers.

I struggle in my prayer life a lot. Often times, I feel unworthy of "asking" for something because of my sinful nature or my repeated negligence in my daily life. I need to work on the repentance process of prayer and accept the Lord's gift. I am constantly praying for my time to spent wisely and to honor the Lord. I know that spending more time in prayer for "My other Half" will honor the Lord.

My goal for prayer time this week for my husband are: (& believe me, I include myself in the same prayer areas to hold me accountable as a wife)
  • Monday - My husband's role as husband & father
  • Tuesday - My husband's joy
  • Wednesday - My husband's safety
  • Thursday - My husband's example to others
  • Friday - My husband's health
  • Saturday - My husband's rest
  • Sunday - My husband's spiritual growth

FOR TODAY Monday, November 16th, 2009

Outside My Window...
It's very cold. Our temperatures are hitting lows in the 20°'s and maybe a high of a low 50°.

I am thankful...
that we are finally recovering from the miserable nasal congestion.

I am thinking...
about how far behind I am on posting my homeschool weekly reports! ACK!

From the learning rooms...
We are starting Week #11 tomorrow and then we get a week off for our Thanksgiving break.

From the kitchen...
We have emptied our leftovers this weekend and start a fresh menu tomorrow. I've been wanting to cook a meatloaf with some mashed potatoes and gravy.
  • TEA TIME --no clue :)
I am wearing...
a comfortable pair of pajama pants and SOCKS! My footsies are cold.

I am remembering...
that I need to do so many things and life around me is piling up...hehe!

I am creating...
more Kindergarten quilts, a blog design, and Christmas gifts.

I am going...
try and figure out a way to get our Honey Berry to sleep through most of the night.

I am reading...
my Bible and lesson plans.

I am hoping...
for a cure for the sweet babies that are born with EB.

On my mind...
are ways to keep our house warm without super high propane bills for the winter.

I am hearing...
the Wii Fit chimes.

Noticing that...
I don't recover from illnesses as quickly as I used to.

Pondering these words...
"I'm not a bit changed--not really. I'm only just pruned down and branched out. The real ME--back here--is just the same."
Lucy Maud Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

Around the house...
is the signs of clutter from mommy and baby not feeling the greatest.

One of my favorite things...
is having my home clean.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...
School, clean house, more school, more clean house!

Here is picture thought I am sharing...
